Moving into the New Year without Pain
by Alan E. Smith
Was better health was one of your New Year’s Resolutions? It’s hard to work on getting better health if you’re suffering from chronic pain. Here are a few more suggestions to help you feel better this year.
Advil
Advil or ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug which reduces pain. By reducing inflammation it reduces your pain, fever, and other issues. Like any over-the-counter medication there can be adverse reactions. Advil can increase the risk of a fatal heart attack or stroke even if you don’t have any of the normal risk factors. It can also cause stomach or intestinal bleeding which can also be fatal and these risks increase for elderly patients.
Prayer Therapy
Did you know that 45% of Americans have used prayer for health reasons? Prayer Therapy is a process of learning how to pray effectively by combining the insights of psychology with the power of prayer. Prayer can be words, thoughts, or images but they should express inspiration, devotion, and affirmation. Prayer Therapy practitioners may be ministers, medical professionals, or simply lay people.
Healing Touch
Healing Touch is a nurturing energy therapy based on the belief that everyone has the capacity to heal through touch and compassionate intent. The technique can be used for all ages and conditions of health or illness, regardless of the type or severity of pain. Healing Touch works with the body’s energy field to support your natural ability to heal. The process was developed by Janet Mentgen, RN, during the 1980s. As a nurse she founded Healing Touch in 1989 as a program of continuing education for nursing professionals and lay people interested in healing. Today it is used in hospitals, hospices, spas and a variety of settings. She was honored in 1988 as the holistic nurse of the year by the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) for her work.
Bee-Venom Therapy (BVT)
BVT is one type of Apitherapy or the therapeutic use of beehive products such as honey or royal jelly. The use of bees and bee products goes back to ancient Egypt, Greece, and China.
It’s believed that bee stings work to stimulate the body’s immune system in specific locations. It may also increase the body’s production of cortisol which is critical to reducing pain. Bee stings are commonly thought to ease the symptoms of arthritis, MS, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and other conditions.
Because about 2% of the population may have allergic reactions to bee stings, the first step is to test the risk factor by injecting a very small amount of bee venom underneath the skin or with a single bee sting. In any case, it is always a smart idea for anyone using BVT to have a bee sting kit with a syringe of epinephrine close at hand for safety. Even if you haven’t had a problem with the first 79 stings, it doesn’t mean you won’t have a problem with the 80th. Allergic reactions can include anaphylactic shock which can be fatal.
PSYCH-K
PSYCH-K may also be an option for you. We know that the brain is where we actually feel pain so we have to consider that our brain, in particular our subconscious, may be the source of our pain. It uses muscle testing or Applied Kinesiology to work directly with the subconscious mind.
This process is a unique method to locate problem subconscious beliefs and quickly transform them into beliefs which support your best life which means no more chronic pain. These subconscious beliefs function like filters distorting our view of life and ourselves. By changing subconscious beliefs to support our best life we can dramatically improve our lives.
Begin this new year believing that you will find a way to reduce your pain and improve your health because there are literally hundreds of options waiting for you.
