Ice Cream and Mattresses Recalled over Health and Safety Concerns
Recalling products over health and safety concerns is becoming nearly daily news now. Just this week, consumers in the Northeast were informed of the recall of specific lots of the Royal Ice Cream while the recall of Serta mattresses sold online also made news.
Royal Ice Cream Recalled Lots of Batch Ice Cream
Eatthis.com reported on Tuesday (February 8) that the Royal Ice Cream company is recalling specific lots of multiple Batch Ice Cream flavors. The FDA posted the recall alert on February 4 after they found the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a kind of disease-causing bacteria, in the samples of the ice cream lots. Listeria infection can be mild to serious, and in some cases, even deadly.
Specific lots of Batch Ice Cream brand recalled include ice creams in vanilla, ginger, and mocha chip flavors. The recall report wrote:
The affected ice cream was distributed to Market Baskets in Massachusetts, Big Y stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and Roach Brothers Markets in Massachusetts.
Anyone having questions about the recall is advised to contact the company at 860-649-5358, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.
Serta Mattresses Recalled over Safety Concerns
On Thursday (February 10), WLTX-TV reported that Serta has recalled 800 of its Perfect Sleeper mattresses over concerns that they pose a fire hazard after they failed the federal flammability standard set by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
They were purchased online at serta.com and from several popular retailers including: Aaron’s Furniture, Ashley Furniture, Macy’s and Sam’s Club.
The story adds that so far no injuries have been reported. Consumers who purchased these mattresses are advised to contact Serta by email at mailto:sertasupport@sertasimmons.com or call (888)-762-0013 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays for questions relating replacement and disposing of the mattresses.
