ByHeart Baby Formula Recalled Nationwide over Link to Botulism in Babies
Today brings the alarming news of the recall of a baby formula that has led to cases of botulism among babies who consumed it. As reported in Boston Harold and other media, ByHeart recalled two batches of its Whole Nutrition Infant Formula on Saturday.
The recalled bacthes of Whole Nutrition Infant Formula include: lot Nos. 206VABP/251261P2 and 206VABP/251131P2. Both of these have December 1, 2026 as their use-by date.
The FDA on Friday notified that out of the 83 cases of botulism among babies across the country, 13 were linked to consumption of ByHeart formula. The children who fell sick after consuming the said formula are in the states of California, Texas and Illinois (each state haing two cases of sickness), Washington, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, and Rhode Island (each of these states having one case of sickness).
Stories of babies falling sick with botulism, a serious bacterial infection that can pose a threat to the patient’s life, were posted to social media as parents and loved ones learnt of the formula’s recall. Health authorities say they are monitoring the cases.
Parents and/or guardians are requested to check their baby formula batch number and expiry date and immediately stop feeding them if they are among the recalled ByHeart batches. Read more about infant botulism causes, symptoms, and treatment options.
