The event, which is for kids and the young of hearts, will be held at the Loganberry Books in Shaker Heights, Ohio on October 16, 2022, at 1:00 pm. Joining Lauren Persons at the event will be illustrators, Noah Hrbek and Lydia Whitehouse.

Persons will read from her new book What Happened to Chester?: An En-deer-ing Tale of Hope and Healing, which is illustrated by Hrbek and Whitehouse. The trio will engage in acting scenes out of the book with children and sign copies of the book.

About the Book

Rory, an adventurous, take-charge young girl, meets her match in Hobblety Wobblety Chester McDeer. She soon learns that her friend can jump over any obstacle, despite his disability, and make a big difference to family and friends. Colorful, fun illustrations make the journey delightful for kids young and old.

The book is for kids roughly in the age of 8–11 years. Interesting and important themes covered in the book include animals, social issues, special needs, self-esteem, and self-reliance.

Author’s Message

“As a teacher, I have been very lucky to have had the opportunity to work with children of all ages. They have taught me as much, or more, than I have taught them. Their innocence, imagination, and tell-it-like-it-is style makes life an adventure, not a chore. As the author of What Happened to Chester?, I want kids to take away a love of nature and, most important, the knowledge that nothing needs to stand in the way of them becoming their very best selves.”
