Health Alert: Walmart Ham in IL, IN, and OH Recalled
In the latest health alert from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Great Value Black Forest Ham has been recalled over health safety concerns. The ham recalled is at Walmart stores in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.
Food Safety Network reported on Thursday (May 19, 2022) that Great Value Black Forest Ham, produced by Plumrose USA, has been recalled because “the product may not be fully cooked.” The 1-lb resealable plastic packages of ham that have been recalled were produced from April 28 through May 1 and shipped to Walmart stores in the three states. The product reads: “Great Value Black Forest Ham Water Added” with a “BEST IF USED BY 07/15/22” date.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of USDA says it is worried that some of the ham recalled may be sitting people’s refrigerators/freezers. The FSIF urges consumers to read their product labels and in case they got the half-cooked ham recalled by the USDA, do not consume it.
Sausage Sticks and Luncheon loaf Recalled
Just a day earlier, Food Safety Network also reported the recall announcement for 14,635 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) sausage sticks and luncheon loaf products. These food products were recalled by the America New York Ri Wang Food Group Co. Ltd., of Bay Shore, NY, because the products could be contaminated with metal particles.
The problem was discovered after the firm received a consumer complaint reporting they found two metal pieces embedded in a sausage stick.
The products recalled are said to have been manufactured between April 5 to May 5, 2022. These include:
- 16-oz. plastic bags containing one luncheon loaf with a “Use/Refreeze by NOV. 11, 2022” date and lot numbers of 422094 and 422110.
- 23-oz. plastic bags containing 10 sausage sticks with a “Use/Refreeze by NOV. 13, 2022” date and lot numbers of 422094, 422102, 422112, 422116, 522122 and 522124.
- 10-oz. plastic bags containing four sausage sticks with a “Use/Refreeze by NOV. 13, 2022” date and lot numbers of 422094, 422102, 422112, 422116, 422119, 522122 and 522123.
These products were shipped to retail stores nationwide.
