4 Essential Stages of Alcohol Addiction Rehabilitation

by Chris Jansen

When it comes to selecting a rehab centre, you need to make informed decisions based on the specific conditions. These centres help the addicts to learn the coping skills in a healthy manner without addiction relapse. It relies on a comprehensive therapy and counselling with the experts.

When a person is trying to overcome alcohol addiction, it is essential to develop healthy lifestyle habits and a positive mindset. Typically, this treatment can be completed in four main stages. They are:

Stage 1: Initiation of the Treatment

When you get to a rehab facility, an expert consultant will assess your conditions on the parameters like alcohol dependence, medical history, and physical health. These questions are typically asked in an interview format to know you better. A medical detox setting is available to help you in faster recovery.

After initial screening and assessment, a proposed plan of treatment will be suggested to you. A reliable rehab facility will provide an individualised treatment. It gives you insights into the time that you need to stay in the rehab and therapies to be used for your treatment. Accordingly, you can attend the therapy sessions in the inpatient facility.

Stage 2: Faster Recovery:

The alcohol addiction rehabilitation programmes are designed to ensure faster recovery with the help of proven modalities. The treatments are structured with educational activities, individual counselling, cognitive behavioural therapies, and group sessions based on mindfulness therapy. These treatments are aimed at improving the communications skills and recovery. At the same time, they help in addressing the deeply rooted psychological and emotional issues.

Stage 3: Sustaining Recovery:

After spending several weeks in treatment, the maintenance stage of alcohol addiction rehabilitation starts. During this stage, you are motivated to accomplish the goals set in the initial stages. The specialists at rehab facility will provide structured support for continuation on the path of abstinence, prevention of relapse, improved emotional functioning, and addressing several other problem areas.

Stage 4: Group and Community Support

Towards the end of your stay in a rehab, you will be offered support and assistance from the peer groups and community. The goals in this stage are based on an individualised plan to continue recovery within the community. It also includes a relapse prevention program that includes individual psychotherapy, outpatient treatment, rehab aftercare, transitional housing, and local group support.

On successful completion of all these stages, you can move on to the life of sobriety. Before getting into a rehab facility, you should ask about the length of programmes that they offer. Generally, it depends on the type of programme.

The inpatient programmes may take 1-3 months for completion while long-term rehab programs can be extended by several months. Assess all these factors and accept that you need specialised care to recover faster from alcohol addiction.
