Waffle Makers and More from Kitchen Recalled

Food and medicine are not the only items recalled frequently by the manufacturers over safety concerns; kitchen appliances and even cabinets have recently made news for being recalled.

Last week, more than 450 thousand waffle makers were recalled over the risk of burn hazard as reported in Food and Wine. Empower Brands, manufacturer of the PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer Waffle Maker, recalled some 456,000 of its waffle makers after dozens of burn injuries and other accidents were reported by consumers.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) asked consumers to “immediately stop using” two recalled models of waffle makers: Model ESWM02, 5 inches and Model ESWM03, 7 inches. Both these products, of various colors, were sold at different stores from July 2021 to October 2022 for $30 to $60 each.

The recall page for the products encouraged consumers to call the helpline toll-free at 1-866-276-0063 for recall assistance.

Also making news is a Cole & Mason pepper grinder sold at the supermarket chain that was recalled. As reported by Popculture, the pepper grinders was recalled after multiple reports of consumers finding metal shards in their food after using them. The recalled grinders were only sold at Wegmans Food Markets between January 2021 and January 2023 for about $14. Consumers can contact Wegmans at 855-934-3663 or by email at Wegmans.com/service/contact-us and Wegmans.com/news-media/product-recalls/cole-mason-pepper-mills.

Earlier in the month, Virginia-based cabinet manufacturer American Woodmark recalled 235,000 kitchen wall cabinets. The News and Observer reported that the cabinets sold under the Continental Cabinets and Hampton Bay brands were recalled over the risk of detaching from the wall and posing an impact hazard. The cabinets were sold at Home Depot online and other brick-and-mortar stores in more than 20 states.

The manufacture has asked consumers to get the repair kit, watch the instructional video and request help if needed by calling American Woodmark at 888-273-7896, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Eastern time or contact Continental or Hampton Bay online.
