Finding Your Next Job

Sometimes losing your job isn’t a downfall in your life; it’s an opportunity to seek out your higher purpose, or next move. I recently saw a Facebook Meme that said, “You weren’t born to just work, pay bills, and die.” I totally believe this is true. So many of us get stuck in a job because it’s familiar or we are too scared to make a change; when that happens, shifts in our life can happen to make the change occur without your control.

Aside from collecting unemployment, or holding a sign beside the highway; if you’ve found yourself jobless, and needing to find a way to make money to get the bills paid, here are some options:

Seasonal Work

No matter the time of year, there is a company somewhere that is needing seasonal workers. It may be farming in the fall, it may be retail in the wintertime, it may be landscaping in the spring. This is your opportunity to break free and try something new and interesting you might not have thought would pay you for it! It may not pay a lot, but some pay is better than $0 pay!

Selling Items

EBay or Online yard sales are a great way to sell some things to get some money; even an old-fashioned yard sale can score you a few bucks. If you are not crazy about selling your own things though, there are a number of other selling options that you can utilize:

• Donating Plasma
• Products such as jewelry, make-up and skin care, health & wellness, pet food
• Turning in Scrap Metal
• Pawning items
• Creating an Etsy shop and selling handmade products
• Medical Research participant
• Growing food and selling at farmer’s market
• Return your own purchases

Now for the money-making opportunities for people looking for a longer-term investment.

Apprenticeships

There are opportunities in so many different professions that will allow you get hands-on job training and get paid to do it from day one! Some jobs include:

• Chef
• Carpenter
• Child care development specialist
• Construction craft laborer
• Dental assistant
• Electrician
• Elevator constructor
• Fire medic
• Law enforcement agent
• Over-the-road truck driver
• Pipefitter

Find what sparks an interest and go for it!

Start a Home Business

So many successful entrepreneurs started their own business right out of their own home! Having expertise in something gives you the option to sell a service or product.  Now more than ever, the internet escalates this option even more. For the internet savvy, here are some basic job ideas:

• Virtual assistant
• Customer service representative
• Telemarketing
• Affiliate Marketing
• Blogger
• Social Media consultant
• Tax consultant

If you’re not internet savvy, here are some more ideas you can start with right away:

• House/Pet sitting
• Childcare service
• Repair services
• Chauffer service: Uber/Lyft
• Lawn care
• Gardening
• Baking home goods
• Tutoring
• Event planning

You have the time, now invest in yourself and earn some money!

Take a Class

I don’t really mean go back to college, unless that’s something you’ve been looking to do. Or if your desired new career requires it. What I’m suggesting it explore a hobby you have and take a class to advance your skills in it. Taking a class will get you in contact with the right people to get you a job in that profession.

Teach a Class: If you gained expertise in a skill that your previous jobs have trained you in, then you might consider teaching this skill to other people. If it’s a skill that’s in-demand in the work-place that’s even better! You can have a class at your own home, or reserve a space at the public library.

If all you want in another dead-end job that will simply help you pay the bills with long hours and extremely low-paid manual labor, here are some agencies to check out that help you get your next gig:

• Staffing Agencies

Well, there you have it. Ideas that will help you get money same-day and others that will land you a new job; some of these you can utilize together. There are lots of people who have second jobs, or do a hustle on the side. So whether you are looking to expand your horizons and do something completely different, or if you just want another job that is going to pay the bills; these options presented here will help you.
