Natural Products and Tooth Care to Avoid a Painful Trip to the Dentist

Without effective daily oral hygiene habits, anyone can be at risk for cavities and serious dental problems. Since many people fear visiting the dentist, there is even more of a concern related to oral health care. Those do not like the taste of toothpaste may prefer natural methods to reduce tooth decay.

Baking Soda

Many people swear by baking soda as an effective way to clean teeth. Simply wet your toothbrush, dip it in baking soda and scrub away. One of the beneficial features of baking soda is that it is not abrasive, so it will not strip enamel from your teeth. Baking soda has fine particles that dissolve between the teeth, removing plaque and bacteria. It does a great job removing stains, helping teeth look whiter. Baking soda is recommended because its chemical makeup helps neutralize the acids from bacteria that form in the mouth. You can also purchase baking soda toothpaste if you do not want to use a box of baking soda to brush your teeth.

Strawberries

Strawberries are a natural antioxidant, so they can do wonders for multiple areas of the body. Strawberries also work effectively in bleaching your teeth. By crushing the berry pulp and brushing it onto your teeth, the berries will neutralize bacteria that cause stains.

Hydrogen Peroxide

If you have whitening problems and issues related to gum disease, use hydrogen peroxide. Do not swallow hydrogen peroxide; it is toxic to the inside of your body. Simply pour a small amount into your mouth and swish it around like mouthwash. You might even hear the bubbling noise it makes as it eats away at the bacteria on your teeth and gums. It works well to reduce problems with infections. If you have problems with canker sores, hydrogen peroxide is a great option to heal them quickly.

Healthy Eating

To avoid painful trips to the dentist, the best thing you can do is eat healthy. How often do you drink sugary sodas and other drinks? Reduce your intake of foods that increase your risk of tooth decay, replacing them with healthier foods like crunchy fruits and vegetables. These foods will remove bacteria from the teeth and gums, and they often help to whiten your teeth. Increasing your intake of water will also prove effective at controlling tooth decay. Water helps flush the bacteria that cause tooth decay out of the mouth. This will limit problems with cavities, bad breath and gum disease.

Flossing

Daily flossing is a simple way to avoid the dentist. When you floss daily, you remove the bacteria that get trapped below the gum line and around the tooth. The bacteria in these areas are usually responsible for tooth decay and gum disease problems. Daily flossing will allow you to control these bacteria, so you don’t end up with the painful (and often expensive) problems that can lead to a trip to the dentist.
