Vegetarian and Vegan-Friendly Party Foods

by Kelly Elder

Accommodating everyone’s dietary needs can be a difficult task for a party host. When you’re hosting get-togethers, youvegetarian diet have enough on your plate as it is without worrying about what some people can and cannot eat. Two difficult groups to accommodate for are vegetarians and vegans.

Vegetarians don’t eat any meat, and vegans don’t eat any animal products, which substantially limits the kinds of food they will try. Thankfully, there are a lot of fun, easy, and delicious party foods that are either vegetarian or vegan. Here are a few of them.

Pizza

Pizza may be the ultimate party food. While most people’s favorite pizza topping may be pepperoni, it’s pretty hard to be a good old-fashioned cheese pizza. A cheese pizza and a vegetarian combo pizza are two of the most popular pizza types, even among meat eaters. While you can also shop for vegan pizzas, odds are that the only people at your party that will eat them are the vegans. So, if you go the pizza route, it’s best to keep it vegetarian. Making vegetarian pizza is very easy, as is ordering one, and they can provide plenty of food for vegetarian guests.

Hummus

Hummus is a great finger food. Thankfully for those with dietary restrictions — and for those hosting people with dietary restrictions — hummus is almost always vegan friendly. Whether you’re making it yourself or buying it from the store, chances are the hummus is completely free of any animal products. Just be sure to carefully read labels for any store-bought hummus. Vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike love hummus — especially with pita bread, which is also almost always vegan – so this is a can’t-miss option that will please everyone.

Veggie Platter

One of the most traditional party foods is the veggie platter featuring carrots, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, and more, with ranch dressing as a dipping sauce. This is suitable for vegetarians and vegans (though the latter group will opt to skip the dressing). The veggie platter is healthy to boot.

Vegan Chocolate Cake

It may sound unappetizing to people who haven’t tried it, but good vegan chocolate cake is an absolute treat. Vegan chocolate cake can be rich and flavorful, and a perfect sweet option for a party with vegans. It’s also remarkably easy to make. And, if you want a little dairy to appease those looking for a richer dessert, you can make two vegan chocolate cakes, frosting one with a delicious cream cheese topping, while leaving the other entirely vegan.

Chocolate Fountain

What’s a better party food than a chocolate fountain with some fresh strawberries?  While the chocolate you find in most chocolate fountains contains dairy, it works just as well with vegan chocolate, making the ultimate dessert for everyone. Your vegan friends will thank you, and no one else will know!

Accommodating vegetarians and vegans doesn’t need to be a daunting task. With these tips and foods, you can make sure everyone has a delicious party snack, without you having to fret and fuss over what to provide.
