Relaxing Destinations for Recovery from the Stress

Guest Blogger: Heather RobertsCosta Rica

A lot of people enjoy going on a vacation packed with various activities and adventures. However, this tends to get really tiring, so many travelers just want to go to a nice and quieter place, away from the big city hubbub, and take the time for some quality relaxation. So, if you would like to skip destinations like New York, London, or some other metropolitan city, consider some of the following suggestions in order to have a more laid back time and get rid of the stress.

1. St Vincent and the Grenadines

In case you are looking for tranquility and peace, St Vincent and the Grenadines could just be the place for you. It’s a small island, located in the Carribean, near Barbados. This goes to prove that the weather will be as good as it can possibly be. A small drawback is that the prices for a couple of days holiday are quite high. However, there is an advantage to this as the place is really quiet. Pristine beaches, crystal clear water, blue sky and respectful locals. These are enough reasons to make you want to start saving for a holiday in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

2. Costa Rica

Costa Rica has a coastline of 762 miles, so finding a secluded spot on the beach won’t be too big of a problem for you. However, in case you would like to increase the level of relaxation, there are a lot of resorts that include spas, where one can enjoy massages, yoga, detoxifying massages, and a lot more. During the spa treatments, you can even request such local ‘products’ like volcanic mud. A lot of the hotels in Costa Rica are on the coastline, so you can basically spend all your vacations going from the hotel to the beach and back. Apart from the beautiful ocean, Costa Rica also has vast jungles where you can go in order to feel closer to the nature.

3. Marrakech, Morocco

If you want to become part of the Arabian nights, there is no better place for you than Marrakech in Morocco. With exceptional drinks and meals and warm climate, you will have a really relaxed time in the place where at night the only light is the moon and stars in the sky. Even though Marrakech is quite popular among tourists, be sure that there are resorts, which are more peaceful than the rest. However, the beaches are a bit away from the city, but if you want a trip in the desert, this would be the easiest thing.

4. Dubrovnik, Croatia

Some of the best places for relaxation are the small towns, for they are usually neglected by the masses and are therefore quite peaceful. A good example for such a destination is Dubrovnik in Croatia. It is a location, oozing with history. Go on a guided tour or simply wander around the streets on your own in order to plunge deeper into the town’s culture and history. The old town of Dubrovnik is part of the World Heritage Site of UNESCO is quite stunning and picturesque. A nice activity you can get into, without wasting too much energy is to hop on a cable car for a tour around town. Finish the day at a small family restaurant in order to get a taste of the amazing Mediterranean cuisine they offer.

5. Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Be closer to the nature by spending a couple of days in the mountains. Jackson Hole in Wyoming is an ideal opportunity for such a holiday. However, you don’t necessarily have to camp in a tent. You can easily stay at one of the magnificent resorts, two of the best being the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and the Snow King Resort. Jackson Hole’s top attractions include rivers, lakes, wildlife, hot springs, Yellowstone Park and many more natural spots. The area is so vast that it would be quite easy to find a more peaceful place, free of tourist crowds.

A Grand American Adventure for the Experience of a Lifetime

Guest Blogger: Adriana Frederick national park

Why not try a holiday with a difference this year and take an American adventure you will never forget? America has a diverse and stunning landscape to discover in a wide variety of active holidays, which could involve walking, hiking, horse riding, exploring wildlife, and national parks.

Unparalleled Access to Nature

America can offer such a great variety of experiences to the outdoor enthusiast. It has some of the best national parks in the world, where you can take in the spectacular scenery while doing an activity you love. You will be spoilt for choice with such notable destinations as The Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Arches, and Glacier National Parks. The Grand Canyon in Arizona, carved away by the Colorado River, is a sight to behold and the size of it will leave you in awe. It is 277 miles long, 16 miles wide, and up to 1 mile deep; it is nature at its most spectacular. It is a wonderful area for hiking as there are many established trails but for a bird’s-eye view, try to squeeze in a scenic flight over the Canyon.

Also at the top of the tree for Grand American Adventures (GAA) is a trip to the world’s first national park, Yellowstone, which has been operated as a park since 1872. It is immense in size, covering three states and a geographer’s dream, as it has one of the highest concentrations of geothermal activity in the world. The most famous geyser is known as ‘Old Faithful’. It is also a haven for wildlife enthusiasts with bears, bison, elk, and wolves to be spotted.

No GAA would be complete without experiencing some Native American culture and where better to do it than in Monument Valley, the homeland of the Navajo Nation? This is another stunning valley with intriguing rock formations to explore. Join Native Americans around a campfire to experience their culture through song and dance and take a guided 4 x 4 tour to wonder at the red sandstone landscape.

Take to the Road and the Cities of America

Another fantastic way to see America is on a road trip and there is none better than the famous Route 66, which has been immortalized in cinema and song. This was the first direct route from the Midwest to the Pacific, crossing eight states on the way and you can make stops at places of interest, including the Grand Canyon.

Explore the Deep South and all it has to offer in Memphis and New Orleans. A heady mix of southern cuisine, music, and a sail down the Mississippi will leave you feeling like you are in another era. Don’t forget to make a stop in Las Vegas, otherwise known as ‘Sin City’. It’s not known as the entertainment capital of the world for nothing. Enjoy the casinos, shows, adrenaline-pumping roller coasters and shopping in the most fun place on the planet! After the thrill of Vegas, head to San Francisco to enjoy a more relaxed time in one of the West coast’s most beautiful cities. Take in the sights, including the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island. Get around on the cable cars, explore Fisherman’s Wharf, and head up to Coit Tower for some of the best views of the city.

Learning to sail brings with it a rush of confidence and excitement as you master the techniques, push yourself to your physical limits, and embrace the feeling of freedom associated with being out on the open water.

The Joy of Sailing

Like any outdoor pursuit, sailing fills you with the feel good factor associated with being really at one with the great outdoors. For those who love water, there is nothing like the sensation of racing across the sea or lake embracing that windblown feeling. Being out on the water is not all about speed though, as well as involving physical exertion and requiring stamina and strength, it can also be relaxing and peaceful. Mastering any new activity gives you a huge sense of achievement which crosses over into other aspects of your life and learning to sail can increase your confidence in yourself on many levels, not least because when you are learning new technical skills, you will be using your brain as well as your body. Enrolling in sailing school is easy and you don’t need any equipment to start off. All you really need to do is get out and have a go, with the school providing boat, equipment and instruction. Beginner courses for the complete novice will get you started with the basics of boat handling and are great fun to participate in with friends or as a family. In family groups even fairly young members of the family can join in, with safety always paramount during any training session. There are also courses for those who have some experience or are already proficient sailors but who wish to gain qualifications.

Looking Out Moving On

You can learn to sail in the UK or as part of a holiday abroad, with UK-based companies offering sailing school in some fantastic parts of the world, like the Caribbean, Europe, and Australia. Once you are familiar with the techniques, rope handling and safety measures a whole new world of holiday and weekend fun options open up to you. Initial training will cover boat parts, rope work, steering technicalities and safety. Higher level courses teach navigation skills and lead to qualifications certificates necessary for chartering and skippering your own boat. For those who really get the bug, holidays will never be the same; everywhere will be measured by the quality of the sailing available. Learn to sail and you could find yourself racing out across crystal clear waters somewhere exotic before dropping anchor and spending a relaxing day sunbathing, swimming or snorkeling before sailing back to land as the sun goes down.

Sailing is a wonderfully fulfilling activity perfectly suitable for beginners and with many levels and variants available to progress for those who get hooked on the sport and want to take it further.
Seeing places from the water rather than land gives them a whole new perspective and for many there is nothing better than admiring a view which has nothing but water between them, their boat and the horizon.
